Balboa Sports Center
Right near the soft-bottomed section of the river in the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area is a concentration of sports fields (soccer, baseball, golf, and a velodrome for biking) and just some nice walking and picnic areas.

Location
Starting Point: Stroll along the path that meanders among the soccer fields, past the Velodrome, and past all the baseball fields. Stop and watch the games and cyclists and other activities along the way. Parking: Balboa Boulevard at the LA River in Van Nuys.
Directions
Car: Head north on the 101 fwy. Exit at Balboa Blvd. Make a right and then enter Sports Center.
Transit: Take the Metro Orange Line Bus 901 towards Warner Center. Exit at Balboa. Walk to the Balboa Sports Center.

Sepulveda Basin Recreation Center - This is a gorgeous, spacious area with multiple parks, ample facilities, bike paths and one of the few soft-bottom sections of the River.
